Professor, Department of Food Technology and Design, Institute of Human Nutrition Sciences; Warsaw University of Life Sciences; Nowoursynowska 159C St.; 02-776 Warsaw; e-mail: agnieszka_wierzbicka@sggw.edu.pl

Since the beginning of her scientific work, she has been associated with the Warsaw University of Life Sciences going through all stages of her scientific career, and since 2019 also with the Institute of Animal Genetics and Biotechnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Since 2000, he has been actively pursuing innovative food production. Especially effectively cooperates since 2006 with the Polish Association of Meat Cattle Producers co-creating with Mr. President Jerzy Wierzbicki. Inspired by the activities of Mr. President of PZPBM, I co-created the first Polish quality system for beef production “QMP System”, so that the QMP System achieved recognition in 2008 by the Minister of Agriculture, and then by putting effort into the process of submitting clarifications during the notification to the EC, the QMP System could be notified by the EC of the EU and so that it could be included in the RDP in 2014 for the purpose of achieving a servile purpose towards beef producers, processors, exporters and consumers. Since 2012, he has been a member of the Specialized Technical Committee for product certification bodies conducting certification according to the Quality Meat Program (QMP) system.

Another effective cooperation that yielded success greatly contributing to the development of beef production in Poland was the project “Optimization of beef production in Poland in accordance with the strategy “from fork to homestead” ProOptiBeef ” jointly written with Mr. Jerzy Wierzbicki, then won and implemented under the POIG competition, where the Warsaw University of Life Sciences was the Leader of this Project, and the Polish Association of Meat Cattle Producers was the Industry Partner carrying out the tasks and implementing the results of the project to the sector, the University of Warmia and Mazury was the Scientific Partner. The project was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Innovative Economy Operational Program, Priority 1 Research and Development of Modern Technologies, Measure 1.3 Support for R&D projects for entrepreneurs carried out by scientific units, Sub-measure 1.3.1 Development projects (Project No. PO IG.01.03.01-00-204/09). Project implementation period: 2009 – 2015.

The ProOptiBeef project, which I had the honor to lead and Mr. Jerzy Wierzbicki, President, to manage the tasks carried out by the Polish Association of Meat Cattle Producers, achieved maximum implementation and scientific results working with, among others, leading teams of scientists led by Dr. Rod Polkinghorn from Australia, Professor Jean-François Hocquette from France, Professor Linda Farmer from Ireland. The ProOptiBeef project, as one of the best-performing OPIG projects, won recognition and a financial award to expand the research and implement the results to the beef sector.

After gaining experience, I led or participated as a member of the key research team in 6 scientific and implementation projects including:

  • BIOVITALITY implemented under Measure 1.1 “Support for scientific research for building a knowledge-based economy”, Sub-measure 1.1.2 “Strategic programs of scientific research and development works”…;
  • Bioproducts implemented under the Operational Program Innovative Economy, Priority I. Research and Development of Modern Technologies. Measure 1.3 Support for R&D projects for entrepreneurs carried out by scientific units. Sub-action 1.3.1 Development projects;
  • POIR.01.01.01-00-1066/19; POIR.01.01.01-00-0130/18; in two projects of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education implemented at SGGW.

I have been the supervisor of 12 defended doctoral theses, including 10 with distinction, of which one doctoral thesis was carried out in cooperation with Dublin City University, and 30 master’s theses including (7) engineering theses, and I have reviewed 5 doctoral theses and 3 habilitations.
Three of my doctoral students are already independent academics of which two are titular professors.

He also realizes himself as an expert and reviewer from:

  • 2023-2026 member of the Board of Directors of Scientific Units of the Polish Academy of Sciences,
  • 2019-2022 member of the Board of Directors of Scientific Units of the Polish Academy of Sciences,
  • 2021 correspondent member of PAN,
  • 2010 to 2019 as a member of the Committee for the Evaluation of Scientific Units under the Minister of Science and Higher Education,
  • 2015 in Meat Science, EC EU HORIZON, EACEA and COSME and REA EC EU,
  • 2010 – 2012 as a reviewer for the 37th, 38th and 39th competitions at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and PARP,
  • 2010 at NCRD,
  • 2008 – 2010 as a member of the Specialized Team of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for Natural and Medical Sciences (for Research Projects), and since 2005 as a BCCI expert – in the Project “…NO GAPs”. EU Ref. PHARE /2005/107-508508 (food quality and safety).

My selected scientific metrics are:

  • number of publications from JCR list: 126, Hirsh index: 25, total citations: 1870,
  • 30 granted patents by UR RP (I am the main author and creator of granted patents as results of ProOptiBeef and BIOŻYWNOŚCI projects, and I am the leading co-author in 3 granted patents with industrial partners Microstructure, Putka, Wierzejki) of which 7 patents implemented into industry,
  • 3 European protected industrial marks (OHIM) implemented into industry,
  • 18 technology applications implemented,
  • more than 400 technological projects in business entities were implemented 1992- 2018, of which I was the main originator and author,
  • 1 implementation of a molding machine for its production in Poland.

I have received international and national awards:

I speak English and Russian (unfortunately). I have been a member of the Polish Society of Agricultural Engineering since 1995 as well as a member of the Polish Society SPOMASZ since 1998.
I am a person of faith who has received so much from God. I demand from myself even if others do not demand from me. I try to support as much as I can in good and necessary things for those who need it without expecting any gratitude or recognition, because I don’t need those for anything.
