From 2013 until the end of 2019, he served as Director-General at the European Commission, in the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development. From 2006 to 2013, he held the position of Deputy Director-General. Prior to that, as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, he was responsible for negotiating Poland’s EU accession in the field of agriculture, aligning national policies with the Common Agricultural Policy, and conducting both multilateral and bilateral trade negotiations (1997–2004).
He has a strong academic background, having served as an Associate Professor at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences from 1982 to 1997. He has also worked as an expert for the FAO and the World Bank, and as an advisor to the President of the National Bank of Poland from 2004 to 2006.
Currently, as an expert with Team Europe Direct, he focuses on the Common Agricultural Policy, EU enlargement, sustainable agricultural development, the European Green Deal, bilateral and multilateral trade negotiations, and advancing science, research, and innovation in the agricultural sector.
