Waldemar Pawlak

Senator of the Republic of Poland, Chair of the Senate Committee on National Economy and Innovation

Senator of the 11th term of office.
Member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland in the 10th, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th terms.

Born on 5 September 1959 in Model.

In 1984, he graduated from the Faculty of Automotive and Construction Machinery Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology. He also ran a farm.

From 1989 to 2015, he served as a Member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. During the 5th term, he was Chair of the Committee on Local Government and State Administration. He served twice as Prime Minister of Poland (in 1992 and from 1993 to 1995). Between 2007 and 2012, he held the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy. From 2010 to 2012, he was a member of the National Security Council. In 2011, he chaired the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the areas of Energy, Trade and Competitiveness. He also served as Vice-Chair of the interministerial team coordinating activities related to the tragic plane crash near Smolensk.

He was a co-founder of the Foundation for the Development of Local Government Loan Funds. He served on the supervisory boards of Florian Insurance Company, Mostostal Słupca, and Lublin Airport. From 2001 to 2005, he was President of the Management Board of the Warsaw Commodity Exchange, and from 2018 to 2023, he served as President of the Management Board of Polskie Młyny. Since 1992, he has been President of the Main Board of the Association of Volunteer Fire Brigades.

He has received numerous decorations, including the Grand Commander’s Cross of the Order “For Merits to Lithuania,” the Order of Saint Charles, the Norwegian Grand Cross of the Order of Merit, and the Portuguese Grand Cross of the Order of Merit.

He is a member of the Polish People’s Party (PSL). He served as President of the party (1991–1997 and 2005–2012) and currently chairs the Senate Committee on National Economy and Innovation.
