He has served as the Secretary General of IMS since 2024 following a twenty year career with the red meat levy board in England, AHDB, where he was International Trade Development Director responsible for market access and an extensive global trade show programme.
He has spent his working life in the meat and livestock sectors having trained as a butcher in a family business, graduated with a Masters in Meat Science and obtained a PhD in Animal Production.
He has worked in red meat/poultry food safety controls and enforcement for UK Government, in commercial and academic applied research and has particular interests in food safety, animal health, welfare at slaughter and global trade, publishing many papers and articles in the fields.
In 2017, he was awarded Fellowship of the UK Institute of Meat for significant contribution to the sector.
